Gerakas Beach is protected by the National Marine Park of Zakynthos due to it being a popular nesting spot with the endangered Loggerhead Turtles. As a result, there is no access to the beach between sunset and sunrise as this is the time that the turtles nest and later the hatchlings take to the water. There are also limited sunbeds and no water sports are allowed to protect the turtles. You will find one or two local tavernas on the approach to the beach as well as an Eco-Centre which you can visit to find out more about the Island's Caretta Caretta turtles.
